Carolyn Eddy, a self-taught wire artist, has been teaching Gem Faire classes for 7 years. She has mastered the mechanics of wire-wrapping, and in the last 17 years she has developed a
revolutionary, step by step, no stress method of teaching students how to design jewelry with wire (wire-wrapping). She has won numerous awards nationally and internationally. Her work has been shown in various art shows, fairs, and collections all across North America. Her passion for wire-wrapping, as well as years of experience teaching and judging fine art create an effective and innovative classroom environment. She has also authored two books including “Let’s Get Wrapped!” and “All Wrapped Up!” All classes include materials & handouts unless otherwise stated. Bead stringing by Tremaine Fenton
|
Classes are offered at all Salt Lake City Gem Faires.
Tremaine Fenton's bead stringing classes focus on projects, using basic techniques such as peyote, brick stitch, netting, and right angle weave. Fenton keeps her class environment fresh and interesting. "I always come up with new patterns and projects for my students," said Fenton. Her class periods are between 2 and 4 hours. Class fees range from $20 to $30. All classes come with project instructions. These project instruction kits are also available for $10 each for students who do not have time to take class at Gem Faire.
Fenton, a Utah Native, became a professional jewelry designer in 1993. Her first Christmas gift, a large carton of wooden beads, lead her to become interested in bead stringing. Her work has been featured at numerous places in Utah, including Art in the Mountains in Park City, Holiday Blessing Boutique in Sandy, and Dickens Festival in St. George.

Sculptural beads by Christi Friesen

Christi Friesen is an award-winning artist with years of experience teaching polymer clay techniques. Her work has been in books, magazines, shows and exhibits. Students will learn how to create sculptural beads from polymer clay incorporating semi-precious stones, pearls, and glass. Her classes focus on creativity, color-mixing, composition, texture and fun!
All skill levels are welcomed. All tools, clay and supplies are provided in the cost of the class. You will receive handouts to keep as well. C'mon, you know you'll love it! Email or call CF to reserve your spot, or show up to pay and clay (space permitting).

Classes are offered at all Costa Mesa Gem Faires.
Karen Hung is a self taught chain making professional. She has been making and selling her chains at juried art shows, galleries and from her website for 4 years. The Gem Faire 2 hour chain making workshops include: instruction on the proper method of opening and closing rings, instruction for one foundation chain weave and a variation of that foundation weave.
Supplies are included in the workshop cost and include enough copper rings to complete the foundation weave and a sample of the variation. All tools needed to weave chain are provided for your use during the workshop.
Please note: be sure to bring glasses if needed. If there is particular chain weave students would like to learn, special Gem Faire workshop requests are very welcome. However, please email request prior to workshop.

Tina is the owner of Chalcedon Jewelry Design, a one woman design studio based in Seattle Washington. With trainingin two-dimensional and sculptural design and color theory, Tina has been designing and handcrafting beaded gemstone and wire jewelry for over ten years. Students will learn about different types of bead knotting fibers, how to hand knot using pliers or tweezers, how to finish with bead tips, and how to accurately space between beads to expose beading cord.
Various kits are available with glass or crystal beads, gemstones, or freshwater pearls, and base metal, sterling silver or gold fill. All kits are expertly color coordinated and include the best materials available. Kit prices range from $6-$40. Students can also bring their own beads. All tools provided.

Students will learn proper opening and closing of rings, preparation of tools, and basic techniques of this ancient art. Students will make a sterling silver bracelet in one of 3 designs, byzantine weave, parallel chain or European 4 in 1 chain. Kits will be provided that will include all sterling silver rings and clasp. Call or email her to discuss the class. Please bring glasses if needed.
